Wow, it's amazing how these things sneak up on you. I've been lax in sending out reminders, so I wanted to make sure everyone realizes that there's less than a week left in our early bird payment period. If you pay within the next 6 days, attendance to Gamers Gauntlet II will only cost you $25. But on Wednesday May 2nd that price will go up to $35.

Okay, with that ugly business out of the way, I want to let everyone know some of the plans we have for this upcoming party. We want to make sure that everyone has as much chance to participate as possible, even if you aren't all that into our scheduled tournaments. So except for during the first couple rounds of our official competitions, we'll be spotlighting certain pickup games that we run, a different one every hour. For example, our huge Tribes 2 game Saturday night will be one of these. What I'd like from all you players out there is to suggest some of your favorite mods for Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Serious Sam, any game you're currently playing. The staff will put together a wide variety of servers that not only offer some variety (it is the spice of life, afterall), but maybe makes you realize what kind of great mods are out there that you never even knew about.

So email me (stone@rps.net) with any suggestions and, of course, don't forget to reserve your seat today! Hope to see you on the 18th of May.

Attention MechWarrior 4 fans! We would like to see if there is interest in running a Mech4 server at the next Gamer's Gauntlet. I've started a forum thread on the topic -- feel free to drop by and let us know what your thoughts are on this. I've seen some really good teamplay out of some of the leagues lately, and I think the game is maturing into a really fun and challenging play.

We've scheduled a massive Tribes 2 fragfest at 11PM on Saturday night at the party (that's the 19th). It'll be 64 on 64 so that everyone who wants to can play, and it will give us a chance to see how the server performs under real load. If you haven't bought your copy... Also, the Linux version should be shipping this week from Loki.

In hardware news, NVidia has just announced an update of the GeForce2 MX. The updated card, named the GeForce2 MX 400, will sport 32MB more memory and a higher clock speed.

Does the update make the MX perform better? Only at resolutions that are useless frame-rate wise. Based on this review from Anandtech, I'd recommend staying away from it and sticking with the older (and now better priced) MX.

For anyone that's interested, Gamespot has a HUGE article on the development of Black and White entitled The Final Hours of Black and White.

The article is a comprehensive look into how 25 individuals got together and worked three years on Peter Molyneux's latest masterpiece (which, incidentally, he funded out of his own pocket). It explores every hill and valley of the development process, and is, in my opinion, a tremendously good read.

Now, I know this link of 10 ways to win at LAN parties seems really funny, remember it's all fun and games till someone dies. Then it's hilarious!

TRIBES 2 has been hitting shelves in the local area. I myself grabbed a copy today. Woo!

For those who like `god' games and RTS style games, Black & White has hit shelves today in stores across the US. These next few weeks will hopefully add some new life to the PC gaming community as new games start to roll out. Keep your eyes open for Black & White, TRIBES 2, and Worms' World Party, all coming at you in the next few weeks. I feel pretty confident we'll see lots of TRIBES 2 and WWP getting played at the next G2 and maybe even some Black & White.

Welcome news on the hardware front: Mace, the big quad P3 550 Xeon (1MB cache) that ran all of the Quake3 tournaments at Gamers' Gauntlet I, will be returning for future parties -- he has been placed on "permanent loan" status to Gamer's Gauntlet and upgraded to 1GB of system memory by Intel and the Red Hat Certification Labs. Three cheers for our sponsors!

Hold on tight cause I got a mess (yes a mess) of news items. The first of which is that Gamers' Gauntlet 2 registration is OPEN! To the left you can find a sign up link, go to it!

This weekend is outLAN 23. It may be a little too late to attend at this point, but at least now you'll know to watch for it next time. :)

And I would also like to bring your attention to Network Invasion Charlotte. As far as I know, this is the first party to replace City/Country Kill in the Charlotte area. If you live near Charlotte and are looking for a kick ass party, this is it.

TRIBES 2 has also gone gold. Which I suppose is like a breath of fresh air to the gaming community even if you hate TRIBES.

And, just as a closing note, if you missed last night's MojoZilla show, the show is available for download. Please don't kill my router. :)
