Last night Gamers' Gauntlet received a server machine from Red Hat Software for running tournament servers. Myself, Bad Mojo, and Aetius (actually more Bad Mojo and Aetius :) spent the evening installing and configuring Redhat 7.0. For those of you on a fast connection here (100K) is a labeled picture of the box. This hoss of a machine is a Quad Xeon 550 w/512MB of ram and 120GB's of software raid. Thanks to Red Hat I dont think we are going to have a shortage of server power. :)

On another note, the machine next to Mace is the new "Mystery Machine". This machine is a dual P2-300 and will become the production webserver for Gamers' Gauntlet.

Registration is filling up fast! There are 73 people registered as of this posting, so be sure to get your payment in before the end of the early bird special at 11:59PM on Tuesday February 13. Hope to see you at the lan.

There's a new Payment Page available. This makes it easy to use PayPal if you didn't click the link right after registering and can't find the automated email that got sent to you. Simply fill out the information on the form and submit it, and you'll be whisked away to a PayPal site with all the necessary information filled in. The good news is that you can use our new Payment Page to cover the fee for friends, relatives, and clanmates as well.

Wow, 62 people are payed as I write this. That's over half of our seating capacity. I suspect that as we near the cut-off period to get the $25, those last spots are going to fill up, so get moving and get your money in ASAP. Just consider that 30 years from now, when your kids ask, "Were you at G2?", you can reply, "Yes. Yes I was." And you won't have to lie if you actually attend!

The network connection is back up and working fine. So, now, you have NO excuse for not getting your payment in to save your seat!

Well, obviously Intrex and Covad have failed to come through. The network is still down, despite Intrex's 9:30 AM notice that "[a]ll circuits should be back up within 4 hours."

You may have noticed some problems getting to some Gamers' Gauntlet resources. Unfortunately, the people who can't read this are the ones who probably want to know what's going on. The gamersgauntlet.com primary DNS server is down, and it's on the same network as the registration and online payment pages. This of course is very frustrating. Intrex.net and Covad, the ISP and DSL provider for that network, have told us the network should be back up by around 11:30 AM Eastern, meaning a total downtime of some 30+ hours. Until that network is up and running again, the Gamers' Gauntlet pages can be accessed through the numeric IP (64.244.29.58) or the old address of frag.doublenegative.com. We're really hoping that this will all be taken care of as soon as possible.

Good news for everyone who is going to be attending G2! Nvidia has sent us some great prizes. We got the typical schwag, plus a GeForce 2 Pro. This will be a door prize (of course) so anyone could win it. But you got to attend to get your name in the hat. So sign up and get that payment in ASAP. We're allready near the halfway mark for reserved seats and we expect them to go fast as the deadline to pay in advance nears.

Well I would just like to let everyone know that the webpages have been moved yet again to another host. Sorry to anyone that tried to access the page during the move, everything should back back up and faster now. If you have any problems feel free to email me.

On another note, the issue of cheating was brought up on the message board, and the staff has been discussing this in private e-mails. The following decision was made. Anyone caught cheating will be ejected from the event on the first offense. No questions asked, no refunds. Anyone that complains about this will be considered a cheater and will be savagly and thoroughly beaten. I hope that this policy will not have to be enforced. The rules page will be updated soon. See you all at the next G2.

Things have gotten quiet, but we're all working hard on the upcoming G2. Registration is up to about 110 people and I still recommend everyone get their payments in to reserve a seat ASAP. Those who get left out will, of course, be the butt of many jokes at the event. :)

Well, I cant reveal all the details yet, but exepect to see live coverage of the next Gamers Gauntlet from the event floor. We've got to get all the details worked out, and when we do, expect to see a nice news entry about it. As for now.....Might as well go ahead and get in with that early bird sign-up and payment to reserve yourself a seat, they're going to start disappearing fast.
